Oh the irony! The Sunday Telegraph are reporting (requires registration) that the 'Make Poverty History' wristbands worn by many a celebrity are being manufactured in slave labour conditions in Chinese sweatshops. Audits carried out on some of the manufacturers who make the wristbands show that workers are exploited, underpaid and work long hours.
Whilst some charities have stopped buying from the factories, others continue to do so. Christian Aid and Cafod are two charities still buying from one of the factories and say that their aim is to buy from the factory in order to improve conditions. How? What control have they got over a factory in another country?
