Google has chosen to shut down the Google Code project hosting service (a code collaboration service). Its initiative was to provide open source repositories to developers which was launched in 2006, a time when the resources for project hosting was limited. As a first step, Google has already disabled the option for users to create new projects on the platform, however the existing projects can be edited and viewed. Google has already announced the phased shutdown of the hosting service while providing necessary tools and suggestion for users to migrate to other hosting services. Google itself transferred thousands of its own projects to GitHub, a popular coding repository.
