wordpress widgets?

hi

I'm currently updating a wordpress blog for a community project I have been involved in (link in my signature;)). The blog was set up by a friend but I have added some new posts - I wanted to put the new posts under a new category widget. I can't work out how to do this and not get the same posts appearing under each widget heading.

Does this make sense to anybody and can you help?

I think some of my posts don't really fit under the current widget headings and it is getting harder to navigate as more posts are added. The wordpress site doesn't seem to offer much relevant help on this matter.
