Arrow Singapore

It would seem, from an interview on one of his boksl Lee Kwan Yew inadvertantly admitted to supporting Pol Pot in his genocidal campaign in Cambodia in the late 70s and 80s. As the story goes; With the fall of Vietnam to the Communist; the Americans approached South ast Asian countries to help stop the spread of communism. However, the US at the time was running Operations Pheonix to weaken the Vietnamese with the weapon of coice: drugs. Lee Kwan Yew is/was a friend to the Cambodian king who is neutral in politics of the country. So, Lee Kwan Yew was between a rock and a hard place; suport his friend and Cambodia would fall to the Vietnamese and incure the wrath of a super power. In order to do both, Pol Pot offered a way out. Pol Pot was a staunch anti-communist with a strong enough force in the Khmer Rouge to stop the Vietnamese invasion. However, his preference towards genocidal (1.7 [those that are known] million men, women and children: combatants and non-combatants)tendencies were well known as reports were streaming through news agencies like the Associated Press. Hence, Lee Kwan ew was not without information of the humanitarian catestrophy taking place. He proceded to send money to Pol Pot. The conundrum for all Singaporeans are: 1. Who authorized the USE of SINGAPOREANS money on such a venture against a nation we are NOT AT WAR with? 2. Since, the Singapore government knowingly supported Pol Pot; the Singapore government sanctioned genocide of foreign nationals in their country. 3. If the current Singapore government does not or is not willing to prosecute Lee Kwan Yew and make ammends to the Cambodian people; then there is a DUAL LAW SYSTEM in Singapore- impunity for the elite and punity for the rest of us. His "justifications" are; 1. it was at the request of the US government and 2. he wasn't alone. Both are not valid "reasons". Since, the Us government also requested that Singapore become a more democratic system why didn't he? If the US asked him to jump of a cliff does he ask "how High"? It is up to the moral compass of every nation to decide on what they want. Nothing short of an impeachment and criminal proceddings against Lee Kwan Yew and those who sanctioned the genocide of the Khmer people will satisfy JUSTICE.

Unfortunately, Singapore as a whole, is too passive to take a stand against the Lee family. *shrugs* it's really time for them to learn not to be sheep.

Why was your poll closed.. I agree with what you're saying and reckon you're quite right to question the way the government is running things. Read my thread titled "democracy..." lol
